I Am an Animal Rescuer -- Tuesday April 20th, 2010
I Am an Animal Rescuer
My job is to assist God's creatures.
I was born with the drive to fulfill their needs.
I take in helpless, unwanted, homeless creatures
without planning or selection.
I have bought dog food with my last dime.
I have patted a mangy head with a bare hand.
I have hugged someone vicious and afraid.
I have fallen in love a thousand times.
And I have cried into the fur of a lifeless body
too many times to count.
I have Animal Friends,
and friends who have animal friends.
I don't often use the word "pet"
I notice those lost on the roadside
and my heart aches.
I want to live forever if there
aren't animals in Heaven, but I believe there are.
Why would God make something so perfect
and leave it behind?
We are a quiet but determined army
and we are making a difference everyday.
By the love of those who
I've been privileged to rescue,
I have been rescued.
I know what true unconditional love really is,
for I've seen it shining in the eyes of so many,
grateful for so little.
I am an Animal Rescuer.
My work is never done.
My home is never quiet.
My wallet is always empty,
but my heart is always full.

My Dog Experience -- Monday March 22nd, 2010
I had the best dog in the world. An Old English Sheepdog mix with Lab. He took the characteristics
of the Old English Sheepdog. He herded me, looked after me and gathered his toys in a pile.
He followed me everywhere and was my shadow. He adored me and I him.
But unfortunately he could not live forever and started having bowel, gut, tummy problems.
He gradually was put on tons of medication trying to keep his body functioning. But in the end,
he gave it all up at the age of 12 years. I lost my best friend and not a day goes by that I don't feel the pain
of losing him.
But my son in San Diego was ready for a dog. He found his perfect dog at the Miracle Dog Rescue Organization
with Reyna Cruz. And yes, I will have to say there was another perfect dog in the world.
I wanted to do something in memory of my sheepdog so I started helping Reyna Cruz post the dogs
she found on the streets that needed to be mended and needed to be cared for and loved from
people that hearts were bursting with love, patience, understanding and the need to connect with dogs
that themselves have all these characteristics within their spirit. Dogs that don't understand what they
did wrong to deserve such cruelty but will give up everything for one hand that shows them love,
patience and understanding. Would rather have care before food.
Reyna Cruz gives these animals the chance to have this love experience and a chance at a second life.
A life maybe they once knew or maybe this is the first time with kindness for them.
But the animals know and always give back their appreciation double what you give them.
Though I live in Maryland I appreciate Reyna Cruz allowing me to help bring a smile on a dog's face.
Thank you Reyna Cruz for caring.
The Story of Jake -- Thursday November 26th, 2009
Jake’s story
In July, 2009, a kind person found Jake cowering on a sidewalk, as he was being beaten by an angry man who then took money to stop the abuse. After money changed hands, this filthy, injured and very afraid little dog was surrendered to yet another unknown human. .
Thus he entered his new environment, his small body already badly battered. This brave little trooper had several broken ribs and an unset broken leg, and a recently dislocated leg. He also had many cuts and bruises covering his body.
For over a month, he stayed hidden, refused food until after his rescuer left his feeding area. Because of his life-saving fear, it was a struggle to give him the necessary medication. This delayed his recovery. Finally, still filthy and matted, he shyly came out, befriended by kind, patient humans, wanting the attention he saw other dogs get. Slowly, trustingly, he allowed his rescuer to give him a medicated bath, which helped the sores heal more quickly. Still shy, he started putting his injured front leg toward his new master, as if to salute.
His socialization took longer because he was so intimidated by humans in his past life, but he came to love and trust and his healing took much longer because of all his other problems. Jake is now in a wonderful home, with caring humans, where he can continue to recover in an environment filled with love and peaceful surroundings. He still needs time, but with time and love, he will flourish.
A note from JAKE in his new, forever home. 11-15-09
Oh, Boy….I really LOVE my new home AND my new Mom. I have a yard with grass and dirt, and Mom doesn't even mind if I pee on the plants. The entrance to the park is across the street and we go there every day to walk through the woods and roll in the grass.
We went to visit friends and I met two cats and chased a chicken. Then I rolled in something that smelled really good. After we got home I had a quick bath and the good smell went away. Almost. I could still smell it when Mom used the "hair dryer". I didn't like the noise, but it was nice to be warm and dry.
Well I'm going to go take a nap now. At night I share Mom's bed, even though I have one of my own, but for naps I like to sleep on my blanket that now stays on the couch, just for me.
Bye for now and thank you all for everything,
Love, Jake
The Story of Rego -- Wednesday November 25th, 2009
Rego
As hard as it is to believe, someone was trying to starve this poor dog to death. He refused to die. So the way Joshua, Rego’s rescuer, tells MDR, the owners found someone willing to go outside with the dog, kill him and leave him on the street!
When he arrived at his safe haven, he was close to death, barely able to stand. He was too thin, and it seemed touch and go for awhile, but his will to live was strong and he thrived with lots of love and good food. After he regained his health, he never complained. He was ready for anything. All he wanted, or needed, was a safe environment – a warm, safe place with good food and friendly hands to pet him.
It took several months of rehabilitation, but now Rego is a contented dog who has found his forever home, and he will never worry about being beaten again.
Now, however, he is in a GREAT home, with loving, caring humans who will watch him continue to grow and trust, and be the happy “puppy” he was never allowed to be. He will gain trust and learn how special he is, how great it is to be alive and how really wonderful the right human can make life.
Thank you for caring enough to adopt a rescue.
Rego’s family adds:
Our family adopted Rego October 5, 2009. Josh told us how he was rescued from a man who had been starving him for 3 weeks and since the dog refused to die, he was going to shoot him.
When we got Rego home, his tail was down and seemed quite mistrustful. The first night in our home he slept in the back yard even though we left the door open for him to come in. The second night he slept inside but stayed downstairs, and the third night he ventured upstairs and slept there.
Now he is a part of our family and he is a wonderful dog. We just cannot fathom how anyone would want to hurt him!!. He has gained more weight, he loves to go for walks, asks to go outside and now he is even sleeping on his very own doggy bed. Our sons love him and he loves them back. He likes to follow us around and now he does not like to be left alone. We are VERY happy Rego is part of our family.
PET AIRLINE ANNOUNCED ! ! -- Friday April 24th, 2009
A new airline scheduled to take off in the US fully expects its passengers to behave like animals.
On Pet Airways, of Delray Beach, Florida, all pets travel in the main cabin and owners are not allowed on board - not even in the cargo hold.
The airline claims to be the first designed specifically for the safe and comfortable transportation of pets.
Company founders Dan Wiesel and Alysa Binder say they got the idea while planning holidays with their pet dog.
"Currently, most pets travelling by air are transported in the cargo hold and are handled as baggage," said Mr Wiesel.
"The experience is frightening to the pets, and can cause severe emotional and physical harm, even death. This is not what most pet owners want to subject their pets to, but they have had no other choice, until now."
Seats are removed to make way for pet carriers
The airline has scheduled its first flight for cats and dogs for 14 July and will serve five US cities - New York, Washington DC, Chicago, Denver and Los Angeles.
Pets - or pawsengers, as the airline calls them - can be booked in online and are checked in to a Pet Lounge at the airport.
Pet attendants give the animals a "potty break" shortly before take-off and then monitor the animals during the flight.
Owners - or Pet Parents - can follow their travel progress using an online "pet tracker".
On its website, the airline promises never to leave a pet alone adding: "A pet attendant will always be within a cat's meow."
The flights will be made in 19-seat turbo-prop planes operated by Suburban Air Freight, which have their seats removed to make space for the pet carriers.
Their website can be found at www.petairways.com

FRANKLIN VILLAGE FAIR -- Sunday November 18th, 2007
Miracle Dog Rescue had its first Hollywood Opening Nov. 18, 2007.
We were front and center at The Franklin Village Fair with 9 adoptable dogs and 8 volunteers.
We even found a wonderful forever home for Abel (now called Burton). David, the handsome guy in the cool hat on our home page, lives in L.A. and fell in love (at first sight) with his new kid and he checked out great when we did the home/vet check. We love when that happens! Thanks for being a fine, upstanding adopter, David.
Lots of people strolling by took an interest in our group and we got offers of help and a few donations. Thanks! Many of you commented how grateful you are that we rescue not only in southern California but also in Tijuana and Baja.
The day was a tremendous success. Our booth was set up, replete with our mission statement, business cards, donations box, and banner, as well as the rap sheets on all our adoptable dogs. Passersby were so responsive to our mission and wanted to know more.
You will see us out and about at lots of adoption events in the coming year. Please stop by and say hi and do look for us next year at The Franklin Village Fair.
Don't forget to browse our adoption pages before you exit the site!
